Erythroxylum catuaba is a tree, native to south-America and related to
the coca-plant. It grows in the northern part of Brazil in Amazonas,
Para, Pernambuco, Bahia, Maranhao, and Alagoas.
Catuaba has a long history in herbal medicine as an aphrodisiac.
Tupi Indians in Brazil discovered the qualities of the plant centuries ago.
